Barrow will not pursue a deal for former Luton Town defender Lewis Emanuel after the player revealed he is facing surgery on a toe injury.Barrow manager Dave Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria: "Lewis had an operation two years ago and has been is some discomfort since,

"He could have easily signed a deal with us then told us afterwards but he has been really honest about it.

"You don't get many honest lads like him in football any more."

Emanuel, 26, has impressed on trial with the Bluebirds after deciding not to return to Kenilworth Road for pre-season training.

"We did want to sign him," Bayliss said. "But he's now facing two to three months out of action so it isn't going to happen at the moment."

Bayliss has now turned his attention to "an experienced" 26-year-old left-back who is currently in training with the club, but has not yet been named.

"We've got a lad in who we've had our eye on for a while," Bayliss said. "He's been on trial at a couple of League clubs but it hasn't worked out.

"He's a lad with loads of pedigree and loads of League experience so we'll hopefully have a look at him against Bolton on Saturday and hopefully it will work out for us."
