"He's declared himself fit, and a fit Lee McEvilly is a fantastic player," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"We'd be daft not to have a look and see how his fitness is, we've gone down the appropriate channels."
Bayliss and joint-boss Darren Sheridan have put in seven days notice of their intentions to speak to McEvilly, whose injury problems in recent seasons have included a broken leg while with Cambridge and Grays Athletic.
As a former Rochdale team-mate of the Barrow co-boss, the much travelled striker is a player Bayliss is convinced can be of benefit to his squad.
He's a handful, he's a match-winner, and he can also be frustrating but that's what you get within non-league

"I've played on the same team, I've played against him and I've followed his progress over the years, and I'm sure every person who follows non-league football will tell you what Lee is like," Bayliss added.
"He's a handful, he's a match-winner, and he can also be frustrating but that's what you get within non-league, we'd be foolish not to look at Lee McEvilly to go with the strikers we've already got."
Liverpool-born McEvilly, 27, who has one cap for Northern Ireland, began his career with Burscough and has since enjoyed spells with clubs such as Rochdale, Accrington Stanley, Wrexham and Cambridge.
