Barrow coach hails Sheridan class

Barrow joint-boss Dave Bayliss has hailed the on-pitch contribution of co-manager Darren Sheridan in the club's last two matches.Sheridan, 42, was a key part of the side that beat Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday and earned a point at York on Tuesday, prompting Bayliss's praise.

"He's brought composure, and helped the lads around him, Mark Boyd and James Owen," Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"Those two have played better when Sheridan has been around them."

The Bluebirds could be boosted by the return of influential midfielder Robin Hulbert from suspension for the bank holiday weekend, which sees a trip to Wrexham and the visit of Darlington for Barrow.

But Bayliss admitted an immediate return is by no means a formality given the form of the recent midfield set-up.

"It's been a nightmare for him, because every player works hard in pre-season to get right for the first game and he's had to sit and watch," he said.

"He can't wait to get back in the side, but it depends on how the lads in the middle are because they've done terrifically well in the last two games.

"We've got boundless energy from James Owen, Darren has brought composure while Mark Boyd is always likely to get a goal.

"We have to check bodies on Thursday, and see how we fare for another big game on Saturday."
